as my fish makes out with the glass

listening to::
FIF, as i am often found doing.
a taste of My Evil Plan to Save the World:
"My evil plan to save the world,
just you wait 'till it's unfurled,
it'll go down in history.
It's prophetic, no it's not pathetic.
I can't believe I made it up myself."
and now... ...something completely different::
time for an "in-Terpstra-tive dance". do doo do do do de doo doo doo.
for the full effect see Dave Terpstra. he'd be glad to do it for you. i promise.

funniest thing that happened in Computing for Engineers today::
Dr. Clauss in the midst of going on and on about structures (of course, something which i have no comprehension of), stops speaking. everyone feels like there's some sort of void in the room, and we all quickly realize it is her voice. yes, the room was definitely lacking her voice for at least 5 seconds, and somehow it seemed to make the room seem very ominous and foreboding.
...hmm...perhaps that's not the correct context for forboding ...hmm... no, wait. i checked with Microsoft Word's spell-checker, grammer-checker, thesaurus, and periodontist. they all affirm that i have used forboding correctly. especially since i put it in italics and boldness. doesn't that make it seem more foreboding? i mean, come on, when you read this post, doesn't it just give you chills and make you tremble in fear of the word foreboding? i know it does to me, and heck, i'm the one writing it.
so anyway, back to my story::
oh man, do i go on tangents or do i go on tangents??? wow. i do that all the time, as i'm sure you know, if you've ever talked to me. i just get going and all these connections start popping up in my head. it's like, i'm thinking about a story, and something that the story reminds me of pops in and says "hey! i'm important--talk about me." then i'm talking about that thing and here comes another one: "oh hey Bryan, talk about me too!" and then
ACK!! i did it again. sorry. well, not really.
okay, back to the story for real this time::
so Dr. Clauss isn't speaking anymore. everybody kind of looks up from checking their email, chatting, buying underwear off of ebay, or whatever else they were really doing when they were acting like they were taking notes. Dr. Clauss is now staring down our row right at Boerckel. after a minute, she says, "is......that.....a black line across...your face? what is that?" the entire class turns to look at Joel, and he quite sheepishly removes the black thread that he previously plucked from his shirt and, for some reason that i couldn't figure out, strung across his forehead and tucked behind his ears. Joel now look very sheepish and holds up the thread to show Dr. Clauss what it really was. everyone laughs at Joel, and it kind of makes me sad. sort of.

the end.

three tests this week, and i have no initiative to study

listening to::
Most Likely to Succeed by Five Iron Frenzy "oooooo weeeeeeee oooooooh Do what you do when you say what you want to say, With or without regard for me. Scheme what you scheme when you're thinking of yourself, You're the most likely to succeed. "

and now::
...just a minute ago in Scooter and Jaybee's room...
Scoot: "hey, does anybody have some laundry detergent that i can borrow?"
me: "no, I've been out for most of this semester. i usually take some of Boerckel's."
Scoot: "i hear that Neuch has a bunch..."
pauses and thinks for a minute
Scoot: "...and to me, that makes sense."
...a few minutes later Scooter busts back into the room holding what appears to be a full bottle of laundry detergent.
Scoot: "i would like to announce that I am now holding an almost-entirely-full bottle of Neuch's detergent."
me: "is it the same bottle that he's had all year?"
Scoot: "...i can only assume."

question::
is it because Neuch goes home fairly often, or is it because he doesn't wash his clothes?
answer::
Scoot: "i can only assume."

okay, so this is weird. in my last post, i said that my blog ate my story about losing my underwear, but apparently it just overwrote one of my other posts and put it underneath my more recent posts. that's weird. ah well....probably my fault...

anyway, it's the one below that says "don't read this". and maybe you shouldn't.

sometimes this irritates me. i just typed up a long story about losing my underwear, and the stupid blogger thing erased it somehow. today it not my day. goodnight.

gstreet4life (10:51:17 PM): i'm going to sleep in my bed tonight
projenz99 (10:51:27 PM): instead of the couch
gstreet4life (10:52:14 PM): yes
projenz99 (10:53:20 PM): i like my bed here
projenz99 (10:53:23 PM)
: better than my bed at home
gstreet4life (10:53:41 PM): for the first time in probably 2 months
projenz99 (10:54:01 PM): wow
projenz99 (10:54:05 PM)
: why dont you like sleeping in your room
gstreet4life (10:54:24 PM): i do, i just like sleeping on the couch
projenz99 (10:56:43 PM): well i guess there's nothing wrong with that
projenz99 (10:56:46 PM)
: :-)
gstreet4life (10:57:05 PM): yeh
gstreet4life (10:57:07 PM): yeah
gstreet4life (10:57:14 PM): but i'm going to give the bed another shot
projenz99 (10:59:08 PM): keep your roomie company :-)
gstreet4life (11:00:03 PM): well, i usually sleep in here...it's not like i sleep on other people's couches all the time.
gstreet4life (11:00:12 PM): plus, i don't think he cares if i'm here or not
gstreet4life (11:06:08 PM): anyway, i'm going to bed

i'm not into the normal way that i post stuff here

i'm kind of in a weird mood.
here's some Dashboard Confessional...this is The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most

buried deep as you can dig inside yourself,
and covered with a perfect shell,
such a charming beautiful exterior.
laced with brilliant smiles and shining eyes
and perfect posture but you're barely scraping by.
but you're barely scraping by.

well, this is one time,
this is one time that you can't fake it hard enough to please
everyone or anyone at all, or anyone at all.
and the grave that you refuse to leave
the refuge that you've built to flee
the places you have come to fear the most.
it's the place that you have come to fear the most.

buried deep as you can dig inside yourself,
and hidden in the public eye,
such a stellar monument to loneliness.
laced with brilliant smiles and shining eyes
and perfect makeup but you're barely scraping by,
but you're barely scraping by.

how to recognize different trees from a very long distance away
yes, i did take this title from an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. but don't expect this post to have anything to do with trees, because, just like the episode of Flying Circus, the title is completely pointless.

listening to::
the live version of World's Apart by Jars of Clay

which reminds me::
the Jars concert that i went to over break was pretty sweet. it wasn't as cool as the concert here at GCC, but it was still a veritable basket of fun-ness. i think one thing that made it more fun was going to Six Flags for most of the day. another thing that made it awesome was going on a road trip with friends. i think that's one of my most favorite things to do. i hope Joel and i really do go on a trip through Illinois to Texas. that would be real. and ultimate.

and now::
Five Iron Frenzy is coming HERE, GROVE CITY COLLEGE, on October 9th, 2003. I cannot wait. Wow...
oh man, i get to see them on their farewell tour. if you didn't know, they're breaking up after November of this year. they won't put out any more records, play anymore shows, or make any more music. while i'm sad about that, i'm totally excited to make their farewell tour. On their website, where they're talking about their tour this year: "It will be the best Five Iron Show of all time. We will have a more “no-holds-barred" show than the movie "No Holds Barred"(TM), starring Hulk Hogan." Sounds like a proverbial bucket of fun-ness to me!!!

anyway...i decided i like emo. just to let you know.

we played bocce tonight before watching Remember the Titans on the TLC lawn. it was cold and Dave wanted to cuddle with me. thinking it was funny, i said okay, but when i found out he was serious, i thought it was really weird. hmm..
Jennifer's younger sisters were here today. the thing that i think it funny is that they live in Grove City, and they only hung out around here all day because today was "little sibs day"...apparently when your younger siblings are supposed to come on campus with you or something. doesn't that seem a little silly to anybody else?

question::
true or false: Wednesday is the best day of the week.
answer::
false. come on, that was an easy one. hump day stinks.

real question::
who used to think that when people called Wednesday "hump day", they were referring to something vulgar?

answer::
ooh, pick me, pick me

don't read this

so i'm in the bathroom.....ummm.....using the bathroom, and Jaybee and Brian Barry come in to brush their teeth. so i'm sitting there pooping, and Brian Barry reaches under the stall and takes my boxers. (yes, i know it's very strange, but i am incapable of pooping with underwear on, so my boxers were sitting next door the stall door, and within Brian Barry's reach....now i know that's a bad idea, i guess.) they think it's real funny, and i tell them that's it's okay, i'll just wrap myself in toilet paper and come out. apparently they didn't believe me, but they didn't wait around to find out if i would. instead of doing the toilet paper loincloth, i went over to the showers and took Scooter's boxer-briefs, which were still hanging up from when he washed them in the shower after they went spelunking yesterday. i mean, hey, he washed them, they're clean enough. anyway, i went in my room and my boxers were sitting there. that's the end of the story. oh yeah, and then i found five bucks on the ground. not really, but it does make the story sound better, doesn't it?

gstreet4life (10:51:17 PM): i'm going to sleep in my bed tonight

my fish is trying to pick the food up off the bottom of the tank from where she dropped it earlier today. it's funny. and exciting.

listening to::
Switchfoot, Learning to Breath ... "I'm learning to breathe/ I'm learning to crawl/ I'm finding that You and You alone/ Can break my fall/ I'm living again/ Awake and Alive/ I'm dying to breathe/ in these abundant skies" Switchfoot is a so so very good band. mmm...yay.

and now::
i can't work today. i really cant. it's so beeeeautiful outside. break starts tomorrow. i'm going to Texas. i get to eat the best Mexican food ever this weekend. i just don't want to do any work.

ARGH!! WHY INFERNAL MATHEMATICA??? WHY MUST YOU BE DUE TOMORROW???

on a lighter note:: i've decided that i like the start up sound for Mathematica. i love making it start up 5 or 6 times before i actually start working, because it's fun to hear all the groans of people on the hall that know that sound. hehe.

more fire stories::
--today at dinner--
i am reminded by Dave and Jordan that this is a huge paraphrase of the conversation. well, that's too bad, isn't it. Jordan: "We need a pink cat."
Dave: "No, we just need any cat that we can spraypaint.
Jordan: "That would be all fun until I spraypainted it and then set it on fire."
Everybody: "Wha?"
Jordan: "No, really, one of my excess girlfriends..."
JoelB: "You had excess girlfriends?"
Jordan: "No. I said EX-EX girlfriends."
Everyone *very confused* "uhh...okay."
Jordan: "Anyway, my ex-ex-girlfriend knew somebody that spraypainted a cat and set it on fire. She was weird. She also had homosexual cats."
Everyone: " ... "
Jordan: "So, ... let's talk about something else."

--later at the Chef's Corner--
JoelThomas: "i caught my shirt on fire today."
me: "what for why did you do that, roomie?"
JoelThomas: "i just got to close to the grill."
me: "ooooooooooooohhhhhh...neato... ...welp...bye."

--from my DeadAIM log again--

MStwirler (10:44:24 AM): Hey...guess what...my hair dryer just caught on fire
MStwirler (10:44:31 AM): add that to your profile
gstreet4life (10:45:26 AM): oh man..i would, but it won't fit
MStwirler (10:45:36 AM): ummm..delete something else
gstreet4life (10:45:36 AM): how did it catch on fire?
MStwirler (10:45:50 AM): it just started smoking and then there were flames on the inside
MStwirler (10:45:56 AM): and it wouldn't shut off
gstreet4life (10:46:01 AM): wow
MStwirler (10:46:14 AM): it was pretty intense
gstreet4life (10:46:17 AM): oh man
MStwirler (10:46:32 AM): well i have to go...just thought i'd tell you another fire story
gstreet4life (10:47:39 AM): thanks
Auto response from MStwirler (10:47:39 AM): I caught on fire in physics lab on Tuesday...my hair dryer just caught on fire...what's up with me and fire lately?!?!?!

question::
what's the best thing i've heard all week?
answer::
Karl Rove, when speaking yesterday, was talking about September 14th. he said that he was with the president visiting Ground Zero in NYC, and he looked over and saw "strangest bunch of religious leaders standing over there. They were all waving American flags. There was the Episcopal with his purple thing on, and the devout Jew wearing his funny little hat..."

oh yeah, i forgot::
we went to the Like Summer concert tonight. actually it was a CD-release party for Chalk Outline Party, but we only went to see Like Summer play. they're so good. COP is not very good. we heard one of their songs before Like Summer came on. i got Kristin to go with us. she had never heard them before, but she did enjoy them a lot. of course, it was a show in Victor Lee's attic. right above the best Chinese food in Grove City. that was the 3rd show that Joel and i had been to in Sun Gin's. anyway...i'm sleeping now. goodnight. <--and it most definitely is.

question::
why do they rock so hard?
answer::
because they're good enough that they can just have fun and rock on. wow...it's so great. i love college.

a permanent-marker frowny face on my hand

listening to::
The Hammer Holds by Bebo Norman my playlist is in my praise-type songs now.

and now::
whew...what a relief. i finally got a chance to ask Kristin to the Adelphikos formal. i just hope that she doesn't think that she was my backup plan. i feel really bad about that. she said that her and Libby had been talking about it. they heard that Ainsley couldn't come down and knew i would be looking for a date. well, the real story is that i originally i wanted to take Kristin. (Kristin, i hope you read this, because i really don't want you to feel like you're a backup...) i thought it would be a lot of fun with her. the only reason i started planning on taking Ainsley is because one day i asked her jokingly, and she said it might be possible for her to come down. well, of course, we've been trying to find a time when she could come visit me, hang out for a while, and meet my friends. when it turned out she was free that weekend and willing to use her frequent flier miles, i was all about bringing her in for the weekend. but on Sunday she emailed me saying that she couldn't come because otherwise she wouldn't be able to see her family at Christmas time. i agreed that it was better for her to stay at school instead of coming down to visit, but the last two days have been really stinky, with the formal hanging over my head, and wondering if i would look like i have this plan of girls lined up that i wanted to take to the formal. well...i hope i don't look like that, because that's not the way i think.

but i'm pretty sure that i'm coming off as a big loser who thinks about this stuff too much.

question::
too tired to think of one. [why?]
answer::
because it's 1:26am, and you're supposed to be tired at that time.

what fun, and excitement

from my deadaim log::

MStwirler (7:27:59 PM): oh hey
MStwirler (7:28:06 PM): my lab parter set me on fire

MStwirler (7:30:20 PM): i've been on fire before though so it was no big deal

gstreet4life (7:34:07 PM): hmm...sounds fun, and dangerous

MStwirler (7:35:25 PM): it's pretty darn cool
MStwirler (7:36:34 PM): well i have to go so have a good night and don't catch on fire

gstreet4life (6:06:42 PM): we did too start the fire
gstreet4life (6:06:53 PM): actually, Further Seems Forever did
gstreet4life (6:07:06 PM): or maybe it's that they want to start the fire
bizerkel (6:07:43 PM): well, all i know is that i didn't start any fires
gstreet4life (6:07:51 PM): what for why not?
bizerkel (6:08:29 PM): well, actually, i played with jeff's lighter earlier today, so i guess i did start a few
gstreet4life (6:08:52 PM): neato
gstreet4life (6:09:04 PM): i've started so many fires
gstreet4life (6:09:11 PM): i don't know how to put them all out
bizerkel (6:09:13 PM): but probably not the type billy joel was talking about
bizerkel (6:09:25 PM): yeah, i hate it when that happens

projenz99 (10:47:21 PM): you know, once I reached across a candle on the table at dinner, and my entire sweater caught on fire, and I jumped up and yelped and danced around until I put it out with my hands, and my fam just looked at me like I was a freak. :-)

completely unrelated::
i feel like i'm in a sort of limbo state with this whole formal date thing. it's almost irritating.
i need to do physics work now. good bye. some times i wonder if it really is a good one.

thoughts for parting::

after fear

© 2002 like summer

turn off all the lights in the house

“fear not” in my ears and all these memories in my head

sometimes i wonder if I don’t owe my life to someone

i have never met

my life seems strange to me

i am familiar with the edge of sanity

i know I been gone for a while

living on a turnstile

good bye. and this time, i'm sure about it really being a good one.

and now i hear

a woman screaming:: "what'd you do?" ... "what do you mean you don't know?"
a tow truck backing up
silence:: the horn on the car finally stopped
a distinctive whistling from the bathroom:: it is blatantly Pat
a tow truck driving away
more silence
a big truck waiting on the hill for the intersection to be cleared
laughter:: people that i previously saw walking to the intersection from our dorm, now walking back

goodnight for serious this time

nothing

i both love and hate times like this. i'm in a very introspective mood right now. it both helps me and hurts me. i..can't explain. well, i don't know if i can't or just don't want to. i both want to explain it and want to keep it to myself. no, i don't want to talk about this.

something else...
tonight we sat in JustinBarry and Scooter's room until they returned. me:: on slumpy. JoelB and John Neuch:: the boring couch. we talked, with the lights dim. those times are probably my favorite times at school. people are real then. we just talk about whatever's on our mind, and i enjoy listening to people and thinking. JustinBarry joined our thoughts until he kicked us out. Scooter just sat in the closet like he usually does.

a car wreck just happened outside. i head a car run into something, then try to start up again. now i see that it's at the intersection where Campus Drive meets the main road of Grove City. there must have been a police car not far off, because he's at the intersection now with his lights on. i hear people talking loud. "i didn't do nothing!" one guy is yelling. ooh...i won't repeat that part. now another police car is there now. "...it's 20 miles an hour" i hear somebody saying. i'm glad that things like the constant blowing of a car horn are easy for me to block out, and noises like that don't bother me. i hope no one was seriously injured.

well, i was going to go to bed and sort out more stuff in my head, but this has thrown me off pretty well. maybe that's a good thing.
goodnight

so...coooooold

listening to::
my roomate mumbling in his sleep. he just said something that sounds like "mmmm....maaaaashed potatoes eat father nummm engo plastic". once i had a conversation with him, but not this time. that's just too weird for me to touch.

and now::
why is it snowing again? it doesn't make too much sense. the giant snowball on the quad is gone, therefore i don't want to see another flake of snow until late November. also, it sure would be fine with me if it warmed back up to 65 again. last week was beautiful.

lets do the weekend in reverse order--Sunday::
i am here on the bench i took from Calderwood, my loyal Neuch at my side. actaully he's on the couch, but that is to my right. he's been doing weird things on his computer. he said he was going to work, but i seriously doubt that any work he was getting done is for a class that you can get credit for at GCC. before that i was at the library with Boerckel. we studied/worked on hw from after dinner till midnight, breaking for Bible study. it was a good one, as usual. i got chills. it happened when Jenna read Mark 15:33-41. the part that gave me chills was the part where the curtain tears in two. that's just such an amazing thing for us. by taking all of the sins of the world upon his blameless and pure body, and bearing them in the most painful death that they could come up with, he made the ultimate sacrifice, which made it possible for us to relate to the Lord without an intermediary preist or sacrifices. Hebrews 10, especially verses 19-23, has some amazing things to say about this. i'll let you read it for yourself.
after dinner i went with Andrea, Kistin, and Jennifer down Rainbow Bridge to chase the geese around. oh boy, that was fun. jennifer showed them out to throw a shotput from her elementary school memories. i learned exactly what a pea coat is, and attempted to grasp the point of the button on the inside. Kristin claimed that her mom can skip rocks better than me, but i doubt it.
anyway, earlier in the day we had Hall Bible Study, which was pretty sweet and led by Joel Boerckel, the greatest roomate i will ever have next year. right before that was practice with Buddy and Neuch. that was wonderifical, so fun, and exciting. i really enjoy playing drumset with those guys. we had two groups of people come in while we were practicing and listen to us, so that was kind of neat. we need to have a small show for just friends that will be supportive and not walk out on us. we're starting to get somewhere and actually sound somewhat good. we just need a bass player. if you know one...email me, and i'll talk to him/her.
before that was the expedition to Taco Bell on the way home from church. yes, i finally gave in and ate Taco Bell. and i didn't think it was that bad. isn't it sad? i haven't had good mexican food in a while that i thought that Taco Bell wasn't bad. anyway...i bought lunch for myself, JustinBarry JustinBarry and Jordave (the more Jordan-ish part). we got 10 tacos, a Fiesta Burrito, and a Steak Quesadilla for under $10. oh boy, we just realized that they have $0.40 tacos on Sunday.

Saturday::
i had people over Saturday night. Jenna, Katie, Andrea, Kristin, Jennifer, and Libby came over and we watched Remember the Titans

when they came over, i was playing guitar with Walking Joe, and they wanted me to play for them for a bit...that was fun...i like playing for people, but i need to learn how to sing and play to truely rock the world. i spent a good portion of the afternoon cleaning my room. i watched most of the Eh-Hawks (half Eh Team, half Blackhawks) frisbee games at the tournament they were playing it. i really really really really really really really really wanted to play with them. it hurt my self to just stand on the side (or in the batting cage/nets and cheer instead of playing. i did get to play with them a bunch in between games. they almost won, and they ended in what should have been called a tie for first place.
right before i started watching, i was helping out with the American Cancer Society benefit 3-on-3 basketball tournament (put on by Adelphikos). that went well, and i got a t-shirt out of it. i'm not sure if i was supposed to pay for it. probably. oh well.
i got 2 hours later than i wanted.

Friday::
we went over to Libby's room. we didn't really do anything, but it was somhow fun. before that we watched Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers at Crawford Auditorium. ...what a great movie. certainly the best ever made.
earlier, we didn't have Salt Co. that was a major bummer, and i was sad.

okay, that's enough. it's 2:28am and i'm very tired. i also have an 8am class, which i cannot skip anymore.

question::
[yes, this is now an unanswered question again] who will i take to the ADEL formal?
answer::
eh...you'll find out soon enough
